Свежие SSD от Samsung

Новинки ориентированы на использование в ультрабуках, об этом говорит исполнение в 2.5-дюймовом форм-факторе 7-миллиметровой высоты. Для передачи данных используется шина SATA III (6 Гбит/секунду).

Новый контроллер Samsung MDX обещает пониженное энергопотребление в любых режимах работы, а чипы NAND 2.0 обеспечивают скорость передачи данных вплоть до 400 Мбит на один канал, что позволит серьезно превысить нынешний предел скорости твердотельных накопителей (около 550 Мб/с). Старшие модели 840-й серии, кстати, не только хвастают большим кэшем (до 512 Мбайт LPDDR2), но и поддерживают аппаратное шифрование AES-256. 

As far as drive capacity goes, the "vanilla" 840 SSD will be available in 120, 250 and 500 GB sizes, while the 840 Pro offers more options and space with 64, 128, 256 and 512 GB capacities. We still haven't been able to run the drives through the appropriate benchmarks, but Samsung's slides did reference sequential read and write speeds of 540 MB/s and 330 MB/s respectively.

With regards to random access of 4KB blocks tested with IO Meter, Samsung's announced a 98,000 read IOPS (Input/Output Operations per Second) and a 70,000 write IOPS for the 840. The 840 Pro managed to do even better, as it recorded 100,000 IOPS on random reads and 90,000 on writes.  

While the new line of drives hasn't hit shelves yet, Samsung expects it to be available sometime in mid-October. The 840 Pro will be available for a starting price of 100 Euros for the 64 GB capacity and will range up to €580 for the 512GB model. The 840 SSD is rightfully cheaper, beginning at  €105 for 120GB and rising all the way up to €450 for the 500GB version.
