Aside from an increase in resolution for the ultrawide camera and the new generation of Picture Styles, there’s not a lot here to recommend it over sticking with your iPhone 15 Pro Max if you have one. There’s the new Camera Control button, and there’s even bigger screen before. I would argue that the Camera Control button isn’t necessarily, and the larger screen makes the phone harder to use – but others will feel differently and that’s something I am happy to accept.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is indeed an iterative upgrade, and maybe it wouldn’t feel that way if Apple Intelligence was available today along with all the promised features. Instead, it’s going to trickle out over time. So I would not be in a rush to upgrade. Having said that, I think the iPhone 16 Pro Max is the best phone money can buy right now if you want the biggest screen and longest battery life. It lags in zoom vs the S24 Ultra, but you get more endurance, better camera quality and plenty of creative features like Photographic Styles and Audio Mix. I actually prefer the AI capabilities of the Pixel 9 Pro XL series, with its smarter Gemini Live voice assistant (though you only get free access to Gemini Advanced for a year) and other features like Add Me for photos and Pixel Screenshots.

The regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have the Action button, Camera Control, improved ultrawide lens (though it’s only 12MP, not 48MP), new Photographic Styles, A18 chip, great battery life, and a better color lineup.

Those fussy about photography will appreciate the freedom of Photographic Styles, while creators will almost certainly love the ability to be able to create 4K 120fps content with just a phone. And even if you don't care for these things, surely you can appreciate the improved performance and battery life.That said, we will revisit these phones when the first wave of Apple Intelligence features becomes available and see if change and improve the user experience in any significant way.

It shone particularly in video mode where it delivered better results than any other mobile device we have tested. However, it’s still missing much of the pro software and video support that Apple has added over the past two generations. Things like LOG, Audio Mix, the Fusion camera and Camera Controls are game chargers for creators. I never want to use an iPhone without dedicated camera buttons again. Apple A18 Pro GPU: Относительно быстрый графический адаптер, которым оснащен Apple A18 Pro SoC. Этот iGPU имеет 6 ядер и поддерживает RT; похоже, что он основан на той же архитектуре, что и GPU серии M4. В нашем тестировании, проведенном в октябре 2024 года, ему удалось обойти 7-ядерный графический процессор Apple M1 во многих тестах.

Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся со многими играми, если не гнаться за максимальным разрешением и качеством картинки. Сравнительно умеренное энергопотребление таких GPU обеспечит увеличение времени автономной работы.

A18 Pro: Мощный процессор для смартфонов и официальный преемник A17 Pro. Он имеет 2 производительных ядра и 4 эффективных ядра, а также 35 TOPS NPU и 6-ядерный GPU A18 Pro. A18 Pro оставляет Dimensity 9300, а также Apple A17 Pro и Apple A18 далеко позади с преимуществом как минимум в 10% по многопоточной производительности; 6-ядерный GPU при этом обходит 7-ядерный M1 GPU во многих тестах.
