Современные смартфоны скучно исследовать. Они слишком качественные. Honor 20 - не исключение. Всё по-уму, всего хватает. Мясо для тигров положено (покладено) в полном объёме. Чего ещё желать? Девять баллов из десяти возможных. Можно брать.P.S. В последних строках данного обзора хочу пожелать Huawei развить-таки свою экосистему до того уровня, когда простым "не гикам" будет в ней уютно и комфортно. Нужна альтернатива Google с его сервисами, ой как нужна!

За три недели Honor 20 проехал с нами почти 8000 километров, исполнив сразу несколько ролей. Он отлично справился с ролью штурмана, не подвел со связью, не капризничал и не глючил. Единственное, что не удалось ему в полной мере — заменить фотокамеру. Honor 20 отлично подошел для съемки портретов и объектов вблизи, но остро не хватало оптической стабилизации и правильной цветопередачи. Из-за этого смартфон не слишком хорошо справился со съемкой пейзажей, а ведь это — неотъемлемая часть любого путешествия.

Сильными сторонами Honor 20 можно назвать флагманскую производительность и отличную камеру, в которой, к сожалению, не нашлось модуля с хотя бы двухкратным оптическим зумом. Также недостатками можно назвать отсутствие слота для карты памяти и разъема для наушников. Но даже эти минусы и подвешенная ситуация с американскими санкциями вряд ли помешают этому смартфону стать хитом продаж.

Среди альтернатив Honor 20 можно отметить Xiaomi Mi 9 с AMOLED экраном, процессором Snapdragon 855, камерой с двукратным оптическим зумом и сверхбыстрой беспроводной зарядкой. Ещё один вариант — Samsung Galaxy A70. Он выделяется гигантским AMOLED экраном с диагональю 6,7 дюйма и долгим временем работы от аккумулятора 4500 мАч. Аппарат поддерживает карты памяти, но камера у него — бюджетная, а корпус изготовлен из стеклопластика. Также можно отметить Honor View 20, который после существенной уценки можно купить за 30 000 рублей. Тем не менее, на фоне конкурентов Honor 20 хорош. У Huawei снова получилась выпустить крайне интересный аппарат для самой широкой аудитории.

Honor 20 Pro интереснее: по характеристикам лучше, но дороже — залезает на территорию взрослых флагманов. Поэтому компания упирает на дизайн (он действительно классный!) и мощную четверную камеру с рекордной светосилой. Сейчас это два столпа, на которых держится любопытство потенциального покупателя. Остальным уже не удивишь.

Honor used to have this area of the market pretty much to themselves however the playing field has become a lot more populated recently with some other big players such as Xioami, OnePlus and Asus all wanting a piece of the pitch. Even Google has now realised that this mid-tier is an important area for them so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. I am confident that Honor will be either at the top or very near with the Honor 20. Only time will tell on that one and I for one am excited at the prospect of the ensuing battle of the midtier device that will no doubt continue to run for the rest of the year if not longer.

The Honor 20 is another beautifully balanced, excellent value phone from the Huawei sub-brand. It’s extremely fast, well-designed, has a vibrant display, exemplary battery life, and a very capable quad-lens camera. At £400 (around $560, AU$810), it’s a bit of a steal. However, while the hardware news is nearly all positive, there’s some concern over the Honor 20’s software. Even placing the uncertainty surrounding all Huawei-linked smartphones aside for a moment, Magic UI remains an ugly mess of bloatware and needless tinkering. It’s quite possible to mold it into something more pleasant to use, and it’s never less than fast and reliable. But this is an inferior experience to the stock - or near-stock - Android experiences of other similarly-priced phones.

You probably shouldn't buy the Honor 20 right now. It looks and feels great. It’s powerful. And while the camera array may seem better on paper than it is in person, it’s still great. If it were not for the “political” situation Huawei and Honor are currently in, the Honor 20 would be easy to recommend. It’s great value and a highly likeable phone, as long as you are not someone who insists the custom software from Honor and Huawei is still terrible.

Honestly, that's a pretty good price as it already beats a few triple camera flagships around from a few Ringgit to a two thousand (for real). But the real competition it faces is the Xiaomi Mi 9 with the exact same price, carrying similar high-end tech specs such as the Snapdragon 855 chipset. This is a pretty tough fight, and we like both phones a lot. So I guess it just comes down to which brand you prefer in that matchup.

The Honor 20 impressed us with its eye-catching design and good overall performance. The phone runs the feature-rich Magic UI 2.1 and rounds it off with all-day battery life. The starting price of Rs. 32,999 is definitely competitive for the experience and hardware you get. However, this phone is not without its flaws, especially in the camera department. The Honor 20 struggles with colour accuracy, and the benefits of having a dedicated macro lens aren't delivered. The lack of OIS is also sorely disappointing, more so when the alternative provided cannot deliver on its promise.

While it delivers when it comes to general performance, the device disappoints in the camera department. The phone goes head to head with OnePlus 7 which is the phone to beat in the segment, packing great specs and performance, and comes with a formidable reputation. The Honor 20 is not a bad device by any standards but it is definitely facing an uphill battle against the mighty OnePlus warrior, which stands in its way to keep it from getting to the top. With its easy-on-the-hand design and powerful camera array, the phone felt enjoyable to hold and play with, which isn't something you can say about all phones just from picking them up.
