However, we were expecting longer battery life and a more premium build for the price, which is higher than that of competing laptops.

The Galaxy Book4 Edge is a sweet entry point into the Snapdragon X Elite and Copilot+ PC field if you're looking to get in early. We don't generally judge the Copilot AI features of these laptops to be anywhere near essential at this stage, but there are some useful additions, and they'll soon be more ubiquitous as Intel and AMD launch their next-gen platforms. The Galaxy Book4 Edge is not the system to pick if you're looking for a cheap way into the AI PC space, especially our upgraded model, but it is one of the nicer offerings. You may find its big roomy screen and more premium design worthwhile if you’re shopping for a desktop replacement, though we suspect the base model is a better deal given our CPU-upgraded unit's relatively small advantage over other Snapdragons.

The Book4 Edge is a good, thin, and lightweight laptop for someone like a student who needs a big-screen machine that can handle multiple open apps with ease. It has excellent battery life, a nice screen, and good looks. I just can’t see why Samsung put the most powerful Snapdragon X Elite chip into a laptop and then didn’t take advantage of it. There’s no reason to get the $1,750 model I tested; the $1,450 base model is a much better value for 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80-100 chip. The Snapdragon processor makes the Book4 Edge one of the thinnest, lightest 16-inch Windows laptops you can get, with great battery life and performance.

The implementation of the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor to power the next generation of Galaxy AI has largely been a triumph. The manufacturer’s latest ultrabook features a leading battery life combined with a stunning display and some handy functionality for the average user at a price which is reasonable. However, if I were to weigh up between this and the MacBook Pro M3 for the same price then I would bet on Apple’s silicon instead. Both machines are ARM-based, although, the Californian company has the software to work for the hardware and not the other way around. Taken in isolation, the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge is power-efficient, gorgeous, and lightweight. If you’re looking for a more casual machine for watching movies, getting work done, or getting creative then this one ticks all the right boxes.

It will be fascinating to see how Snapdragon X Elite holds up against the two-pronged assault from the x86-64 Windows juggernauts. Regardless of what comes out in the coming months, the Galaxy Book4 Edge 16 is a quality product in its own right, and for that reason, we're giving it our Recommended award. The Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge is a great laptop, there’s no doubt about it. The display is absolutely beautiful, the design is solid aluminum, and it’s extremely thin and light. Yet, thanks to the Snapdragon X Elite hardware, this machine can run for a very long time on a charge even while using a more power-hungry OLED screen. The big concern is the price. At $1,749, you’re paying a good amount extra for that top-end Snapdragon X Elite hardware, which doesn’t make a huge difference. Plus, since this laptop is only available with 16GB of RAM, some workloads may perform better on a Snapdragon X Elite laptop with 32GB of RAM. There are better values to be had elsewhere. You can pick up a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x with 1TB of storage and 32GB of RAM for just $1,313. That’s a lot less money for double the RAM. Yes, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x is a bit smaller and it has lower-end Snapdragon X Elite hardware. But they’re pretty comparable, performance-wise. Luckily, as we’re finishing this review, this machine is already on sale.

Those two small things put a dent in the appeal of what is otherwise a very appealing laptop. It’s well made, has a fabulous screen, is fast and responsive, and battery life is still great, albeit not quite as good as I had hoped it would be. However, its rivals hold an edge over it, whether that be for pure value for money – the Asus Vivobook S 15 (S5507) offers more bang for your buck at £1,300 – or battery life, where both the Vivobook and Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 come out on top. There isn’t too much in it, though, and if you choose the Samsung over those options you’ll still be mightily impressed.

Qualcomm Adreno X1-85 3.8 TFLOPS: Интегрированный графический адаптер, которым оснащены некоторые процессоры Snapdragon X Elite и X Plus. Adreno не поддерживает мониторы SUHD 4320p, а что касается производительности, то он не намного быстрее устаревшего iGPU Intel Iris Xe с 96 ЕС.

Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся со многими играми, если не гнаться за максимальным разрешением и качеством картинки. Сравнительно умеренное энергопотребление таких GPU обеспечит увеличение времени автономной работы.

SD X Elite X1E-80-100: Умеренно быстрая система-на-чипе архитектуры ARM для использования в ноутбуках с ОС Windows. X1E-80-100 - второй по скорости представитель семейства Snapdragon X по состоянию на май 2024 года; он имеет 12 ядер CPU Oryon (8 ядер P и 4 ядра E), работающих на частоте до 4.0 ГГц, графический процессор Adreno с производительностью 3.8 TFLOPS, 45 TOPS Hexagon NPU и впечатляюще быстрый контроллер памяти LPDDR5x-8448. На борту также имеется поддержка USB 4.0, TB 4 и PCIe 4.
