There’s a very specific cohort for whom the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is perfect: anyone after a cheap telephoto camera phone will find this to be one of the most affordable options around. Along with that, you’re getting an excellent display, nippy fast charging and plenty of storage space. If you aren’t fussed about telephoto shooters, however, I can’t recommend you buy the Motorola Edge 50 Pro. The rest of the camera suite has some wobbles and the performance sacrifices are simply too steep considering the price being asked. Most people will be better off picking up a Google Pixel 8a, instead – the charging speeds and internal storage aren’t as good, but the display is equally fantastic and performance, battery life, software support and general camera quality are all superior.

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is an impressive mid-range specimen that looks to break free of the commonplace look of similarly priced alternatives, offering a lightweight design in attractive finishes and colour options to suit most tastes. It’s more than just a looker, however; the 144Hz 1.5K OLED screen is fast and detailed, ideal for both gaming and doom-scrolling on TikTok, it goes from flat to full in just 20 minutes with 125W charging (and a charger in the box no less), plus its near-stock approach to Android 14 is a refreshing change too. The camera setup is another highlight; despite using the same main camera as last year’s Edge 40, it remains an impressive arrangement for the price point with a wide f/1.4 aperture that gives close-ups a natural bokeh, and the inclusion of a 3x telephoto camera at the £599 price point is a rarity.

This is about what you can expect from a high-tier mid-range phone in 2024. The only major issue we have with the Edge 50 Pro is that it comes with only 3 years of Android updates. Most phone manufacturers now offer at least 4 years, which is what the Galaxy S23 FE from Samsung comes with. Speaking of the Galaxy S23 FE, it is probably the best competition to the Edge 50 Pro, with a chipset that is even more capable (despite being two generations old by now), also rocking a triple camera system at the back, and the ability to shoot at 4K 60fps. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 inside the Motorola, however, prevails in many gaming-related cases. Also, there’s the 125W wired and 50W wireless charging with the Edge 50 Pro vs the 25/15W on the Galaxy.

The Pro isn't the top model in the Motorola Edge lineup this time around, but it nicely slots somewhere below flagship territory. Even with the remarkably-specced Ultra, the Edge 50 Pro still manages to offer a very capable camera setup for stills - a champion at light gathering of a main camera is joined by a solid telephoto in a segment where dedicated zoom cameras are rare and an ultrawide that's got autofocus and puts it to good use. And then it tops it all off with some excellent selfies for good measure. Motorola says it's big on experiences and transcending the specs wars, which is convenient when the chipset isn't winning any. But the newly renamed Hello UI is a sizable chunk of the experience with an Edge 50 Pro and it's a nice blend of the visual simplicity of 'stock' Android and the personality and functionality that Motorola has built and continued to develop on top of it. All things considered, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro may just be worth a recommendation - with a medium-sized asterisk about regional pricing and market context.

I’m a fan of the Motorola Edge 50 Pro’s sleek styling, eye-catching colour options, and how quickly it can gulp down power when plugged into a mains socket. But I don’t think it’s the flagship-baiter that the previous generation could claim to be. That’s not to say it’s lacking performance, or has particularly meagre battery life – more that rivals have superior silicon and larger capacity cells for the same sort of cash. The Pantone partnership hasn’t delivered cameras that significantly outsnap the competition, either. Image quality is decent rather than spectacular, and the app is particularly sluggish. Phone photographers only need to spend a little more to get a better shooting experience. If you’re sold on the looks, there’s nothing here I’d consider a dealbreaker – though the abundance of well-rounded rivals at the £599/€699 mark means it doesn’t quite earn that Pro moniker. I fully expect it’ll prove more successful in other territories, where pricing is much keener.

It compares well with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, with the compromises generally coming from specifications that aren’t strictly directly related to the quality of the onboard camera, such as to the screen. The best results come from the 1x lens, but the others also put in a very good performance too, making this a great all-rounder. I’ve seen better macro options elsewhere, but the pictures are reasonable enough for ordinary usage, but portraits and low light are a bit more impressive. So, in answer to the question – is the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra as good as a Samsung flagship – well, it’s a definite maybe.

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is a great choice if you want a phone that looks good and performs well. Its wooden design makes it stand out from other phones, and the large 6.7-inch screen displays vibrant colours and clear pictures. With a powerful processor and plenty of storage, it can handle multiple tasks and games without slowing down. The battery lasts a full day and charges quickly. Additional features like AI-generated wallpapers and water resistance make it a great value. Having said that, the Edge 50 Ultra’s camera may not perform well in low light and there are some issues with image processing across different camera modes. The latter however seems fixable via an OTA update.

Gaming on Genshin Impact etc seems smooth on the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, despite the lesser Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, vs rivals like Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra. You've got the usual stock Android setup here, with the Moto app adding some nifty bonus tools. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra has a dedicated gaming mode and user-friendly camera experience, with Pantone colour approval. You've also got a 4500mAh battery with 125w charging (and 50w wireless charging). Stick around for my full review of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra to see how the battery life and camera hold up against rival phones like the S24 Ultra and Pixel 8 Pro. We are happy to see the importance Motorola has placed onto the camera system, which sounds like a potentially very capable one, especially if we were to speculate based on the Edge 50 Pro's camera performance. You also get quite the capable chipset inside, which is doesn't match the competition from Samsung exactly, but should offer more power-efficiency instead. The one issue—and it isn't a small one—that we have with the Edge 50 Ultra is that it only comes with 3 years of Android updates. Now, granted, if you don't plan on owning the phone for any longer than that, then maybe you wouldn't mind this setback.

It has all the bells and whistles of a true flagship phone while starting at €999, which is considered affordable in today's flagship segment. With time, the price will trend down, and the handset will become an even more enticing option. In any case, despite the promising hardware, a full review will reveal whether the 4,500 mAh battery will be enough for dependable endurance and it's going to be interesting to see how the new camera system will fare against the competition. The Moto Edge 50 Ultra is expected to come to market by the end of May and a lot could change in that timeframe.

At €999, it’s closer competition to the Google Pixel 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24+. Style-wise I think it comfortably competes, especially the Nordic Wood version, and it has them both beaten on charging speeds. Performance should be almost level, and the display is up to par too. Battery life is an unknown, and Motorola’s software additions aren’t quite as head-turning as Samsung’s Galaxy AI, though. Ultimately how well those rear cameras perform will dictate whether it can earn a place among flagship rivals.

There is a lot to like with the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion. Granted yes there are some small bug bites being the camera and pictures taken in low light, but also not having expandable memory to lack of a 3.5mm audio – which for me isn’t a make or break issue but for some there could be alongside missing wireless charging which again isn’t a make or break issue for me, The Edge 50 Fusion does offer some pretty great specs for a relatively great price. I do like that Motorola are pushing the bounds a bit more with their devices and absolutely love the QR transfer from your old device to your new device and I hope this makes its way to many other devices because it’s just brilliant. Certainly I would say the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is worthy of consideration if you’re in the market for a new device that won’t break the bank.

The argument could be made that anyone with a more flexible spending limit should consider pushing a little higher and picking up our favourite mid-range phone, the Google Pixel 8a. Ok, so with everything I just talked about, this phone, the Moto Edge 50 Fusion for a starting price of 23,000, is definitely an excellent package with a gorgeous design, superb display, acceptable performance, battery life, and “not-so-optimized cameras” but still good enough for the price! The no. 2 problem with Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is stock availability! The one I have with me is a review unit, and I was able to get it before the launch, but if you want to buy the Edge 50 Fusion right now, after more than 1 month of its launch, the stock is just not there. So, I think these are the things Moto has got to improve because I see real potential here! In fact, Motorola has currently entered the Top 10 Android smartphone brands in India, with over 100% growth in 2023.

There's sufficient performance to not leave you feeling like you're missing out, the bloatware is irritating but can be removed, leaving mostly a clean Android operating system experience. The cameras are good enough, while not offering all the bells and whistles that you'll get from a flagship device, but you're paying a third of the money here.

We have nothing but praise for the hybrid stereo setup. The camera performance is pretty solid all around, too. We have to say that the biggest weak point on the Edge 50 Fusion specs sheet is probably the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. It doesn't offer ample performance in the CPU or GPU departments.

The display of the smartphone has extremely less bezels with uniform bezels on the top and chin. The display is also equally premium and is also protected by Gorilla Glass. The camera and battery performance are also quite impressive. On top of all these, the smartphone is protected from dust and water. All these things make it an excellent phone for the price it asks for. However, there’s a con as well and it has to do with the chipset. The performance of the chipset is decent but could have been better, especially in gaming performance. Don’t get us wrong. The gaming performance is good, but other smartphones in the same price range offer a better chipset, which provides better performance.

Даже среди других моделей телефонов, выпущенных в этом году, у Motorola есть гораздо более выгодные варианты. Например, у Edge 50 Neo очень похожие характеристики, но у него нет странной проблемы со стабилизацией камеры, и он стоит на 100 евро дешевле. Или вы можете пойти другим путём и заплатить на 100 евро больше за Edge 50 Pro, у которого гораздо более быстрый чипсет и основная камера лучше. The 50 Neo’s strength lies in its low light and portrait capabilities, which I was glad to find, are much better than the 40 Neo’s. However, while the 50 Neo is an improvement on the 40 Neo, it still has some of the same drawbacks. The ultrawide camera is still best avoided. Colour oversaturation and sharpness being overdone to the point where images look sort of fake was still a recurring problem. That said, the 50 Neo is still a pretty good choice, and I mostly enjoyed using it.

This year's Edge 50 lineup is quite numerous, but the Neo seems like it has every chance of becoming the star of the family. It's the most compact, the second most affordable and yet it doesn't sacrifice virtually anything in terms of camera capabilities or screen quality. The IP68 certification and wireless charging are also still here, leaving the chipset as the only potential weak point. But without running our full sets of tests, it's too early to tell if the Neo and the vanilla are worth recommending. Still, we remain very optimistic about their prospects as we part ways and we hope to be able to share more about them in the coming weeks.

From the camera tech and gaming prowess to the battery life, here's what to expect from the Motorola Edge 50 Neo. Official launch should be in a month or so, stay tuned for the Tech Spurt unboxing and review! This mid-range smartphone will have serious competition in the Nothing Phone 2a Plus, OnePlus Nord 4 etc. However, the Motorola Edge 50 Neo is more compact, and boasts full IP68 water and dust resistance. You've also got a lovely stock Android vibe as usual. Performance will be limited for gaming, but shoul dbe more than good enough for everyday shenanigans. And the Dimensity 7300 is energy efficient, so hopeully you'll get a full day of use from a charge, no worries. The Motorola Edge 50 Neo also boasts upgraded camera tech vs the older 40 Neo. You've got a fresh zoom lens slapped on there, alongside the 50MP main and 13MP UWA shooters.

Motorola:

Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся со многими играми, если не гнаться за максимальным разрешением и качеством картинки. Сравнительно умеренное энергопотребление таких GPU обеспечит увеличение времени автономной работы.

Qualcomm Adreno 720: Графический чип для смартфонов и планшетов, интегрированный в SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

Qualcomm Adreno 735: Графический чип для смартфонов и планшетов, интегрированный в SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся лишь с самыми простыми играми, больше подходя для простых дел - просмотра видео в Сети и обработки документов. Плюсом можно считать скромный нагрев и расход энергии.

Qualcomm Adreno 710: Графический чип для смартфонов и планшетов, интегрированный в SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. По данным Qualcomm, он в 2 раза быстрее, чем старый Adreno 644 в Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

Qualcomm Adreno 644:

ARM Mali-G615 MP2: Графический чип среднего уровня для смартфонов с 2 из 6 возможных ядер. Основан на четвертом поколении архитектуры Valhall. Предлагает затенение с переменной скоростью.

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

SD 7 Gen 3: SoC среднего класса с 8 ядрами Kryo (1х основное ядро ARM Cortex-A715 2,63 ГГц, 3х кластер ARM Cortex A715 2,4 ГГц, 4х кластер ARM Cortex A510 с эффективностью 1,8) и модемом X63 5G. Чип производится по современному 4-нм техпроцессу.

SD 8s Gen 3: Высокотехнологичный SoC (System on a Chip) для смартфонов, который был представлен в 2024 году. Среди прочего, в него интегрированы быстрое ядро Cortex-X4 "Prime Core" с частотой до 3 ГГц и 4 дополнительных быстрых ядра Cortex-A720 с частотой 2,8 ГГц. Для экономии энергии также установлены 3 дополнительных ядра ARM Cortex-A520 с частотой 2,3 ГГц. Интегрированы модем 5G, WiFi 7 и значительно более быстрый движок искусственного интеллекта.

SD 7s Gen 2: SoC среднего класса с 8 ядрами Kryo (4x ARM Cortex-A78 2,4 ГГц кластер производительности, 4x ARM Cortex A55 1,95 ГГц кластер эффективности) и модемом 5G (скорость загрузки до 2900 Мбит/с). Чип производится по современному 4-нм техпроцессу.

SD 7 Gen 1: Быстрая ARM SoC среднего уровня с 8 процессорными ядрами Kryo (четыре быстрых ядра ARM Cortex-A710 с частотой до 2,4 ГГц, три дополнительных A78 с частотой до 2,2. ГГц и четыре маленьких ядра ARM Cortex-A55 с частотой до 1,9 ГГц) и интегрированным модемом X53 5G (скорость загрузки до 3300 Мбит/с). SoC производится по современному техпроцессу 5 нм.

Mediatek :

Dimensity 7300: Dimensity 7300 - это процессор среднего уровня со встроенным 5G-модемом. Процессорная часть объединяет четыре ядра ARM Cortex-A78 с частотой до 2,5 ГГц и четыре силовых ядра Cortex-A55 с частотой до 2 ГГц. SoC производится по современному 4-нм техпроцессу.
