Motorola Razr 50 Ultra вышел словно бы укором для Samsung: смотрите, мол, как надо обновлять гаджеты! Очень усердная работа над недостатками: новый шарнир, благодаря которому корпус раскладывается целиком; новые камеры с оптическим зумом, что выделяет смартфон на общем фоне; увеличенный внешний экран, причем не в ущерб габаритам; больше аккумулятор, быстрее зарядка. Влагозащита, наконец. Красавчики, одним словом! Другое дело, что у Samsung стартовые позиции по «флипу» были получше, но теперь выбор кажется еще менее однозначным, чем в прошлом году. Да, Motorola так и не научилась настолько здорово работать со складными устройствами в программном отношении: здесь нет столь крутых ИИ-возможностей, как у Samsung, а аппаратная платформа заведомо слабее (хотя на практике отставание не столь велико). Но и цена Motorola намного ниже, а функциональность внешнего экранчика — в разы лучше.

Honestly there is a lot to like about the Motorola RAZR 50 Ultra. Motorola have fixed a lot of the issues that did plague the previous editions for the razr, such as the hinge stiffness, battery life, external display and camera lens and software which have made this phone an absolute beast. Granted the only thing I would have liked to have seen is a wide angle lens but this is just a small issue over the remainder of the device. Honestly I can easily recommend the Motorola RAZR 50 Ultra to anyone looking to get a flip phone and it does take me back to my original Motorola RAZR V3 I had way back in the day (which still holds a very special place in my tech heart). My only question comes down to what I said last year is longevity of the display as you do tend to notice the seams from the curves over time and in some cases this can become the devices Achilles heel.

I tested the Motorola Razr Plus 2024 for two weeks before starting this review. I received the Razr Plus 2024 and the Razr 2024 together, and I used the Razr Plus as my only smartphone for work purposes. I checked messages, managed my calendar, wrote stories, and edited photos on the display. I also used the phone as a primary personal phone: controlling my smart home devices, playing games, and managing my social life. I tested the durability of the phone thoroughly. Every time I opened and closed the phone I did so with deliberate force. I used the phone in the bathtub, and washed it in the sink. I dropped it a few times onto the pavement. It still looks just fine. To test the AI features, I used a standard prompt list that I always use with AI image-generation tools to prove that they resort to common stereotypes.

I tested the Motorola Razr Plus 2024 for two weeks before starting this review. I received the Razr Plus 2024 and the Razr 2024 together, and I used the Razr Plus as my only smartphone for work purposes. I checked messages, managed my calendar, wrote stories, and edited photos on the display. I also used the phone as a primary personal phone: controlling my smart home devices, playing games, and managing my social life. I tested the durability of the phone thoroughly. Every time I opened and closed the phone I did so with deliberate force. I used the phone in the bathtub, and washed it in the sink. I dropped it a few times onto the pavement. It still looks just fine. To test the AI features, I used a standard prompt list that I always use with AI image-generation tools to prove that they resort to common stereotypes.

To say that I'm impressed with the Motorola Razr Plus 2024 is a bit of an understatement. Motorola actually listened and addressed the biggest shortcomings of last year's model, giving us better battery life, better cameras, better hardware, and even a better cover screen experience. The 2023 model already seemed ahead in many ways, setting a standard for the flip phone category that was once established by Samsung. Now, Motorola is using the Razr Plus 2024 to solidify itself in the foldable space with a flip phone that's almost perfect. Of course, no phone is perfect, and the Razr Plus 2024 may not be enticing to everyone, especially after swapping the ultrawide camera for a telephoto lens. However, if that doesn't bother you, I feel like many of my biggest gripes can (and likely will) be addressed with some software updates. Even with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 right behind it, I have a feeling the Razr Plus 2024 will be the best flip phone of the year.

The cover screen is a major part of the flip phone experience, and everything about it is better this time around. It’s easier to use, does more helpful things, and is much more customizable. If you’re a flip phone enthusiast like me, it has all the right moves. But I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who’s more casually interested in a flip phone or finds the nostalgic factor appealing. You can get a much better camera in a slab-style phone that costs a lot less, and a good camera matters when it’s the one you carry every day. Motorola’s track record for timely software updates remains spotty, too. And the inner screen just isn’t up to the standards of a modern flagship phone.

I'll say this without qualm: the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is easily the best flip phone you can buy in 2024, without exception. It's nicely upgraded compared to its predecessor and has the biggest and most usable cover display too. So why not a full-marks score? Ultimately the compromises of any flip phone don't quite outweigh the benefit of a flagship for me. Until some major breakthrough is made to negate folding displays' crease visibility, and coatings created to completely reject fingerprint smears, there are always going to be minor niggles.

The decision to ditch the ultrawide for a telephoto lens may be a controversial one, but I think it plays well into the selfie-first focus for clamshell foldables in general. Most notable, perhaps, is the introduction of a proper IPX8-rating, which brings the Razr's water resistance up to the Galaxy Z Flip level. The Moto is without competition in its market segment when it comes to charging speed, its displays are likely the best in its class, and its speakers are better than most (foldables or otherwise). The software implementation on the cover screen is one 2x button in the camera UI short of perfection, and Hello UI is easy to like in its entirety as well. Motorola is taking a bit of gamble with the camera setup - or is it a calculated strategy?

However, like Apple Intelligence, it isn’t available yet, but I’m eagerly waiting for Motorola to release this feature. The Motorola Razr+ is available for pre-order on July 10th and comes out at select carriers and retailers on July 24th for $1,299.99. I need to spend some time with the Razr+ before deciding whether that price is worth it. The approaching Galaxy Z Flip 6 looms large, too – but unless Samsung has changed its approach to running apps on the outer screen, I have a feeling this will be the more usable phone of the two.

It's also an excellent alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 if performance isn't your main concern. The Motorola Razr 50 is a great-looking phone with a lot of nostalgia and features that are somewhat let down by its processor. The outer display is great, you get a nice camera setup, excellent battery life for a phone with two screens, fast charging, an IPX8 rating, a super compact form factor, AI features, good software, and 9,999 style points.

Not only is it just as useful as the Razr 50 Ultra’s cover screen – and a smidge better than the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s – it also looks much cleaner, giving the phone a more stylish aesthetic. Add in a brilliant main display and the best battery life on any flip phone, and there’s a lot here to like. Unfortunately, not every issue I had with the Razr 40 gets that same level of attention; performance is still drastically lower than you can get from similarly priced non-folding phones, and while gaming is adequate, the heat management is inconsistent. If these are compromises you’re willing to accept, the Motorola Razr 50 is the best affordable flip phone you can buy right now – though, admittedly, it’s lacking serious competition for that title.

Foldable goodness is trickling down into lower market tiers, with the Razr 50 now getting last year's Ultra perks, plus some improvements of its own. With a large and very useful cover display and submersion-grade water resistance, the 'plain' Razr makes a solid case against competing Samsungs. It's not the greatest cameraphone among its peers, but it does alright in general, and can be a winner in some situations (closeups). The excellent battery life doesn't hurt either. What's less than ideal, and likely the biggest blemish in the Razr 50's showing is its chipset, which is more of a midrange unit and not too well suited for gaming. Other, possibly less important missteps include the suboptimal display HDR handling, and the lack of a charger in the box - we'd take one of those over the bundled case.

The Razr 40 had good intentions behind it, but its execution was flawed compared to the much more capable foldable flagship competition. The Razr 50 doesn’t have this same problem. Motorola has fixed practically every major complaint we had with its predecessor, with a sturdier build, larger and more useful cover screen, better camera performance and improved battery life, while still coming in comfortably cheaper than practically every other foldable around. With a large and very useful cover display and submersion-grade water resistance, the 'plain' Razr makes a solid case against competing Samsungs. It's not the greatest cameraphone among its peers, but it does alright in general, and can be a winner in some situations (closeups). The excellent battery life doesn't hurt either. What's less than ideal, and likely the biggest blemish in the Razr 50's showing is its chipset, which is more of a midrange unit and not too well suited for gaming. Other, possibly less important missteps include the suboptimal display HDR handling, and the lack of a charger in the box - we'd take one of those over the bundled case.

Either way, the fact is that both the Motorola Razr Plus and the regular ol’ Razr are excellent this year, and both look capable of beating out Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6, which has barely changed since the Flip 5. As a Razr Plus fanboy, I expected to love Motorola’s top flip phone, but I’m finding the vanilla Razr is far easier to recommend, and I’d dare to call it the best value we’ve seen from a foldable phone available in the US.

Frankly, this is a pretty solid midrange phone built into a flip phone chassis, and that's really all it needs to be. It's a novelty, sure, but whether you're interested in the smaller folded form factor or you find this sort of device fashionable, it's pretty great to see a clamshell phone as good as this one available for just $700 — and that's before Motorola's inevitable sales. While I think most Android Police readers would be better served by the $1,000 Razr+, if you're interested in picking up a foldable without breaking the bank, this new Razr might be the way to go.

Motorola is setting a new benchmark for all foldable phones this year with the Razr (2024). For a foldable phone priced at under $700, it receives a much more satisfying upgrade in my opinion complete with a new outer screen and stylish design. In terms of utility, it matches its sibling in nearly every aspect — with the exception of how it’s not getting the same set of Moto AI features. For the $300 in savings, I think that’s an understandable compromise.

That said, if you do own a Razr (2023) — you're fine. However, people that are new to the foldable space and don't feel like spending $1k on the new concept may find this device has enough to hook them in and keep them as Moto fans. Right now, we hope the camera gets some love since the Razr (2023) was lacking in that area.

Motorola:

Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся со многими играми, если не гнаться за максимальным разрешением и качеством картинки. Сравнительно умеренное энергопотребление таких GPU обеспечит увеличение времени автономной работы.

Qualcomm Adreno 735: Графический чип для смартфонов и планшетов, интегрированный в SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся лишь с самыми простыми играми, больше подходя для простых дел - просмотра видео в Сети и обработки документов. Плюсом можно считать скромный нагрев и расход энергии.

ARM Mali-G615 MP2: Графический чип среднего уровня для смартфонов с 2 из 6 возможных ядер. Основан на четвертом поколении архитектуры Valhall. Предлагает затенение с переменной скоростью.

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

SD 8s Gen 3: Высокотехнологичный SoC (System on a Chip) для смартфонов, который был представлен в 2024 году. Среди прочего, в него интегрированы быстрое ядро Cortex-X4 "Prime Core" с частотой до 3 ГГц и 4 дополнительных быстрых ядра Cortex-A720 с частотой 2,8 ГГц. Для экономии энергии также установлены 3 дополнительных ядра ARM Cortex-A520 с частотой 2,3 ГГц. Интегрированы модем 5G, WiFi 7 и значительно более быстрый движок искусственного интеллекта.

Dimensity 7300X: Dimensity 7300X - это процессор среднего уровня со встроенным 5G-модемом. Процессорная часть объединяет четыре ядра ARM Cortex-A78 с частотой до 2,5 ГГц и четыре силовых ядра Cortex-A55 с частотой до 2 ГГц. SoC производится по современному 4-нм техпроцессу. По сравнению с Dimensity 7300, модель 7300X предназначена для устройств с несколькими дисплеями, таких как складные смартфоны.
