Overall, I feel like there are just too many sacrifices on the POCO M3 Pro for me to recommend it to anyone. It does have 5G, but besides this, it’s an inferior product when looking at the alternatives like Note 10S. And since the latter supports carrier aggregation in 4G connectivity, 5G isn’t an absolute need even if it’s available in your region. Also, this problem isn’t exclusive to the POCO M3 Pro. The sad truth is almost every mid-range 5G phones are way inferior to their 4G counterpart. For instance, the Realme 8 5G, Narzo 30 5G, and the recently launched Vivo Y72 5G all bring a significant compromise in one aspect or the other.

It offers a big 1080p screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 48Mp camera, a big battery and more for a price that won’t break the bank. It is unfortunate then that its software is something of a let down. While some may be able to live with MIUI, the bloated interface and feature overload need significant work before becoming something worth of recommendation. But if you can put up with the software, this is a device that will likely meet all of your needs and then some, if never quite trumping the competition in any significant way.

While there's no doubt the Poco M3 Pro is overselling itself by featuring the word 'pro' in its name, it's a vastly better device than the standard Poco M3. And, actually, it's a perfectly decent affordable phone with reliable MediaTek innards and long-lasting battery life. Its problems aren't especially considerable - some software blips, a somewhat outlandish design, and a lack of wide-angle camera - but it's more the competition that piles on the pressure. After all, you can buy a Redmi Note 10 Pro with better screen (OLED at 120Hz) and better cameras (it has a wide-angle), and less shouty design principles, all for around the same price. If Poco is more up your street then, well, look to spend a touch more and get the superior Poco F3 instead.

In fact, if you leave 5G out of the equation for a moment, phones such as Xiaomi's Redmi Note 10S and Redmi Note 10 Pro seem like much better value offerings for about the same price as the top-end Poco M3 Pro. Now, I want to address why I found POCO’s motto of “everything you need, nothing you don’t” so ironic here with the POCO M3 Pro 5G. 5G is definitely not something we need here in Malaysia just yet. In fact, I believe POCO could have come up with a better POCO M3 Pro, if they didn’t try to cram 5G into it while shaving off features to meet the intended price point. For RM799, the POCO M3 Pro 5G enjoys the distinction of being the most affordable 5G smartphone in the market, but when its peers are offering sweet features like AMOLED screens, faster charging, dual speakers, richer camera experiences and even IP-rated designs at the same price point by excluding 5G, it really raises the question of whether sacrificing all that just to offer 5G is a good idea here. Heck, you can even get the POCO X3 Pro for just RM100 more, netting you a much faster Snapdragon 860, a faster 120Hz screen and faster 33W charging.

EN→RUNow, I want to address why I found POCO’s motto of “everything you need, nothing you don’t” so ironic here with the POCO M3 Pro 5G. 5G is definitely not something we need here in Malaysia just yet. In fact, I believe POCO could have come up with a better POCO M3 Pro, if they didn’t try to cram 5G into it while shaving off features to meet the intended price point. For RM799, the POCO M3 Pro 5G enjoys the distinction of being the most affordable 5G smartphone in the market, but when its peers are offering sweet features like AMOLED screens, faster charging, dual speakers, richer camera experiences and even IP-rated designs at the same price point by excluding 5G, it really raises the question of whether sacrificing all that just to offer 5G is a good idea here. Heck, you can even get the POCO X3 Pro for just RM100 more, netting you a much faster Snapdragon 860, a faster 120Hz screen and faster 33W charging.

Xiaomi knows how to make a good phone, and the Poco M3 Pro 5G follows the same successful recipe - it packs the best features money can buy you at €179, with 5G being one of the highlights. We did like the 90Hz LCD screen - it was always smooth, bright enough and with great contrast. All four cameras do nice photos, you can play games mostly satisfactory, and the battery life is amazing. The Poco M3 Pro 5G is not the fastest chap, that is for sure - the GPU is unimpressive, the charging is not that fast, there are no popular features like dual speakers or 4K video capturing. But right now, 5G is expensive, so we can only imagine where a large chunk of the budget went. The Poco M3 Pro 5G is not a phone for everyone, obviously. If you want to join the first people getting access to 5G and all that instantaneous web load times, it's probably the cheapest way in. If 5G doesn't matter that much, just look elsewhere.
