And with twin Thunderbolt 2 ports, two USB 3 ports, HDMI output and an SD slot, there’s plenty of scope for expansion. The only small annoyance is the way SD cards still stick out of the reader slot by 15mm. The new 13in MacBook Pro is an even more attractive proposition than before. It’s light, powerful and obscenely long-lasting. This is as good as it gets.

In 2013, when Apple reduced the price of the MacBook Pro with Retina display range, we stopped recommending the 13-inch MacBook Air on the basis that there was only £150 difference in price. As Apple has continued to drop prices we are still looking at just a £150 difference between the two ranges at the entry level. It's great to see Apple reducing prices across its MacBook ranges, but the lower prices of the MacBook Pro Retina range do have the effect of making the MacBook Air look less attractive in comparison

We find it particularly interesting that Apple has still managed to strike such a balance between performance and long-life that few PCs can nail themselves, though this could have as much to do with the operating system, as Mac OS is a very different beast compared to Windows.

MacBook Pro пережил свое третье по счету и наиболее фундаментальное обновление, которое стало возможным благодаря современному энергоэкономичному кремнию Intel и AMD: процессорам Skylake и дискретной графике Polaris. Ноутбук стал существенно легче (на 210 г) и меньше по объему (на 18–22%, в зависимости от размера экрана), чем прежде. Субъективно, от этого больше всего выиграла 15-дюймовая модель, которая теперь весит немногим больше 13-дюймового MacBook Pro прошлого поколения. Таким образом, у покупателей, которые прежде избегали 15-дюймовых ноутбуков из-за их веса и объема, появился аргумент в пользу более крупной машины с четырехъядерным CPU. Конечно, ради компактности Apple пришлось пожертвовать емкостью аккумулятора. Materials, build and aesthetics are top notch. The display is one of the best I've seen on a 13" laptop, and it has low reflectance even when not set to high brightness. Performance is fine, though it's not faster than competing 13" Ultrabooks in the $1,000 tier (though storage is faster than most). Though the lack of currently popular ports is a problem, it's great to have two forward looking Thunderbolt 3 ports (though 1 is occupied by the charger). On the more expensive model, the 4 ports feel just about right.
