If you’re in the market for a smartphone with the latest camera tech, and the latest AI features, as well as (currently) the fastest Qualcomm processor ever made, which runs at a whopping 4.3GHz, then the Honor Magic7 Pro ticks a LOT of boxes, and you can get a lot of very good results from the cameras on the phone. However, if you want a perfect phone, this is not it. Which is a real shame, as I’m a big fan of using telephoto cameras on phones, but I’m left wishing this one was better. I’m hopeful that software updates can fix some of the softness and colour issues I experienced with the telephoto camera on the phone. However, it’s the shiny chrome finish around the camera lens that is a huge issue when you’re taking photos of anything reflective, such as through glass, as these will end up being captured in your photos on bright sunny days, and if you’re using the phone for video work, then you’ll probably want to cover this in a completely black case.

Unfortunately for HONOR, we’re spoilt for choice for brilliant smartphones right now, and the Magic 7 Pro’s £1,100/€1,300 asking price isn’t going to undercut them. The affordable OnePlus 13 ($899.99 at OnePlus) has smashed it out of the park for the first time in years, OPPO has returned to Western shores with the superb Find X8 Pro (£1099 at Amazon), and there’s the trusty Pixel 9 Pro XL ($949 at Amazon) that hardly puts a foot wrong and is still the leader when it comes to AI tools that are actually helpful. And, of course, the Galaxy S25 series is just around the corner at this time of writing. Any of these phones would be a solid pick for a top-tier flagship phone, and some beat HONOR when it comes to long-term update policy.

The Magic 7 Pro isn’t going toe-to-toe with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra anytime soon and Honor seems to know that. Its decision to keep the price at £1,099 (around £150 cheaper than we expect the S25 Ultra to cost) is a smart one that positions the Magic 7 Pro closer to entry-level flagship territory. However, its Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, robust camera suite and AI trickery should mean it’s in a decent position to compete with Samsung’s range-topper. The upcoming OnePlus 13 is set to employ the Snapdragon 8 Elite for a couple of hundred pounds less than the Magic 7 Pro, so the latter’s photography chops will likely make or break its appeal as an alternative to the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max. If you're considering it against the OnePlus 13, then unless you're very concerned about pricing, the Honor likely wins out for you. And if you're thinking about the Magic7 Pro against a Pixel 9 Pro XL, then it'll depend on if you want to spend your 1.1 grand on better hardware now with Honor or smarter software down the line with Google. With that said, this is what many would consider an iterative upgrade with improved durability, a new processor, a slightly better telephoto camera and, rather awkwardly, a smaller battery than both the Magic 6 Pro and the 2025 flagship competition. Instead, it relies mainly on new AI features to separate itself from its predecessor, and that’s a bit of a risk considering key new additions like Super Zoom AI aren’t all they’re cracked up to be in real-world use. The high-quality AMOLED panel combined with all the eye protection features Honor included makes the screen on the Magic 7 Pro one of the best around, and there are absolutely no issues with color vibrancy or brightness levels. There's nothing wrong with the hardware either; the phone blazes through demanding games, and while it gets hot during extended gaming sessions, there are no problems with throttling. I didn't have to worry about the battery running out before the end of the day, and while it doesn't last as long as the X200 Pro, it easily manages a day and a bit even with heavy use.

The Magic7 Pro does a lot of things right - to the high standard you'd expect from a top-shelf model - and it also manages to stand out in a couple of ways worth mentioning. At least two of them can be found in the pill-shaped cutout in the display - the selfie camera and the 3D face scanning bits that you can't get on all that many Androids. The unusually loud speakers are also possibly a selling point. Honor's approach to zoomed in photos starts off promisingly with a sizable sensor, but is a bit of letdown in practice because of the added digital magnification. The smaller battery capacity for Europe-bound units is also a questionable development and one that is preventing the Magic7 Pro from achieving its full potential. In the end, the Magic7 Pro isn't bringing us the level of camera excitement we hoped it would (and the level it just should be able to attain with its hardware). It's also not a significant enough update to the otherwise pretty appealing 2024 model.

One thing that I love about this phone is the face unlock. It is unlike anything I have previously used. HONOR says in its documentation that it uses 3D Face Recognition, and it really shows. When I pick the phone up, it immediately unlocks, so I only have to swipe from the lock screen. I literally cannot fault it. It seems like it does not require you to point your face to the screen at all for it to recognize you and unlock; it is just super fast. The same can be said of the fingerprint sensor; it is quick.

The Magic 7 Pro isn’t going toe-to-toe with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra anytime soon and Honor seems to know that. Its decision to keep the price at £1,099 (around £150 cheaper than we expect the S25 Ultra to cost) is a smart one that positions the Magic 7 Pro closer to entry-level flagship territory. However, its Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, robust camera suite and AI trickery should mean it’s in a decent position to compete with Samsung’s range-topper. The upcoming OnePlus 13 is set to employ the Snapdragon 8 Elite for a couple of hundred pounds less than the Magic 7 Pro, so the latter’s photography chops will likely make or break its appeal as an alternative to the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max. The high-quality AMOLED panel combined with all the eye protection features Honor included makes the screen on the Magic 7 Pro one of the best around, and there are absolutely no issues with color vibrancy or brightness levels. There's nothing wrong with the hardware either; the phone blazes through demanding games, and while it gets hot during extended gaming sessions, there are no problems with throttling. I didn't have to worry about the battery running out before the end of the day, and while it doesn't last as long as the X200 Pro, it easily manages a day and a bit even with heavy use.

The Magic7 Pro does a lot of things right - to the high standard you'd expect from a top-shelf model - and it also manages to stand out in a couple of ways worth mentioning. At least two of them can be found in the pill-shaped cutout in the display - the selfie camera and the 3D face scanning bits that you can't get on all that many Androids. The unusually loud speakers are also possibly a selling point. Honor's approach to zoomed in photos starts off promisingly with a sizable sensor, but is a bit of letdown in practice because of the added digital magnification. The smaller battery capacity for Europe-bound units is also a questionable development and one that is preventing the Magic7 Pro from achieving its full potential. In the end, the Magic7 Pro isn't bringing us the level of camera excitement we hoped it would (and the level it just should be able to attain with its hardware). It's also not a significant enough update to the otherwise pretty appealing 2024 model.

One thing that I love about this phone is the face unlock. It is unlike anything I have previously used. HONOR says in its documentation that it uses 3D Face Recognition, and it really shows. When I pick the phone up, it immediately unlocks, so I only have to swipe from the lock screen. I literally cannot fault it. It seems like it does not require you to point your face to the screen at all for it to recognize you and unlock; it is just super fast. The same can be said of the fingerprint sensor; it is quick.

It is, indeed, too early to say, especially as we don't know the global prices of this flagship yet. The Honor Magic 7 Pro features some upgrades to the camera system, both hardware and software, a larger battery, and faster charging (at least in China). The latest Snapdragon chipset is onboard to challenge other speed champions, and this time around the display is flatter. All this adds up to one very potent and interesting device that we can't wait to test. The most important thing here is pricing and availability. If Honor prices this flagship aggressively outside China, it has the potential to steal even more market share from the big guys.

Battery life is excellent and improvements like OIS for the main camera, faster charging speed and upgraded device durability just about account for the extra £50 premium. Even with these improvements, however, the Magic 7 Lite struggles to compete with the now-discounted Google Pixel 8a. It may not have as much storage or last as long, but the Pixel’s general performance, camera quality, display accuracy and software support are all far superior. The Magic 7 Lite puts up a valiant fight but it would have been better off avoiding the price hike and giving the Pixel a wider berth.

Some might argue the rear cameras have gone backwards by dropping the third snapper, but the Magic 6 Lite’s macro lens was a token inclusion at best, and adding optical image stabilisation has upped the Magic 7 Lite’s night-time performance among affordable rivals. This is also a much tougher handset, which will be great news for accident-prone shoppers. Ultimately you’ll buy the Magic 7 Lite for its colossal battery; there’s simply no other affordable option out there with such a high capacity. If you’re after a long-lasting handset that doesn’t look like an actual brick, you’ll be able to forgive the limited generational upgrades everywhere else.

Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся со многими играми, если не гнаться за максимальным разрешением и качеством картинки. Сравнительно умеренное энергопотребление таких GPU обеспечит увеличение времени автономной работы.
Qualcomm Adreno 830: Интегрированный графический блок в SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite для смартфонов с тремя платами по 1,1 ГГц каждая. Встроенный общий кэш-память объемом 12 МБ для трех сегментов. По данным Qualcomm, на 40% быстрее, чем предыдущее поколение (Adreno 750).
Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся лишь с самыми простыми играми, больше подходя для простых дел - просмотра видео в Сети и обработки документов. Плюсом можно считать скромный нагрев и расход энергии.
Qualcomm Adreno 710: Графический чип для смартфонов и планшетов, интегрированный в SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. По данным Qualcomm, он в 2 раза быстрее, чем старый Adreno 644 в Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

SD 8 Elite: Высокотехнологичный SoC (System on a Chip) для смартфонов, который был представлен в конце 2024 года. В него интегрированы два быстрых ядра Oryon Gen 2 Prime с частотой до 4,32 ГГц и 6 меньших ядер Oryon Gen 2 Performance с частотой до 3,53 ГГц.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 6:
SD 6 Gen 1: SoC среднего класса с 8 ядрами Kryo (4x ARM Cortex A78 с частотой 2,2 ГГц, 4x ARM Cortex A55 с частотой 1,8) и модемом X62 5G (скорость загрузки до 2900 Мбит/с). Чип производится по современному 4-нм техпроцессу.
