Geared toward content creators whose work has them on the go, the Lenovo Slim Pro 7 offers an uncommon combination of power and portability. It's built around a 14.5-inch, 90Hz display and powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 and entry-level Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 discrete graphics. Content creation laptops usually pair a dedicated GPU with a larger 16- or 17-inch display that provides a larger canvas on which to work at the expense of travel ease. With a 14.5-inch display and thin, compact chassis, the Lenovo Slim Pro 7 weighs only 3.5 pounds and makes a better travel companion than a full-size mobile content creation station. And while the display may be smaller than the usual, it's fine and fast with a 2.5K resolution that's finer than the usual full-HD resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate that's faster than the typical 60Hz panel.

If you’re looking for a laptop for general web browsing and productivity, there are plenty of lower-priced options like the Acer Aspire 5 that may meet your needs. That said, if you edit photos, videos, or even audio and think you need a little extra power, the Lenovo Slim Pro 7 14 is a better choice than models with lower-spec CPUs or integrated graphics. Speaking of graphics, while the RTX 3050 isn’t a powerhouse, it’s got more than enough juice for casual gaming. If you’re heading out on a road trip to shoot and edit some video but want to get in on a little Fortnite or even more heavy-duty games, the GPU will handle it. You may need to lower some settings, but the Slim Pro 7 14 will run most games you throw at it.

Yes, the fans are a bit loud when pushing the device and it can get warm on a lap when doing anything other than simple data processing or web browsing, but for most tasks such as creating PowerPoint decks, triaging email, download and reading PDFs, watching Netflix or other streaming services, and using Edge or Chrome, the device should remain relatively quiet and cool. Slipping the Slim Pro 9i in a bag never gave me pause as to what I could and couldn’t do with the laptop. I knew, on a full or mostly full charge I could get through my day whether it be creating marketing pitches, campaign graphics and videos or hours of research.
