The Swift 5 is a demonstration of what Acer does best – good set of features and great specs at a relatively affordable price. The Swift 5 has almost none of the drawbacks a standard ultrabook would have. The build quality is good, the choice of materials give it a bit of a premium feel while the overall portability of the chassis is excellent. The input devices are a mixed bag for us, though, because the keyboard is slightly mushy and has short key travel. At least the touchpad compensates for the lacking keyboard.

What we mean is that when you walk around with the laptop in your hand it almost seems unsafe because you don’t feel any weight in your hand. Despite that the aluminum body is sturdy, and the cold touch is very pleasant. This review actually shows us that the benchmarks don’t always give us real representation of the true performance of a device.

Honestly the only aspect of the Nitro 5 that gives me pause is longevity. Look at that Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark again: The GTX 1650 struggles with a four-year-old game. You’re definitely not going to max out most of 2019’s biggest releases, and it’s only going to get worse from here. On the other hand, it’s about $800. Would I recommend saving up an extra $150 to $200 for Acer’s beefier Predator Helios 300, reviewed in July? Yes, absolutely. But if you simply can’t, or if you plan to buy a cheaper laptop and upgrade more often, then the Nitro 5 is a respectable entry-level machine. The build quality far surpasses what I’d expect from a laptop this cheap, and the internals are “good enough,” for what that’s worth.

This sounds great, but keep in mind you won’t be very comfortable using the touchscreen, as the entire lid flops like a madman if you tap it. On the bright side, the lid, itself, acts as a leverage for the base that lifts its backside a couple of millimeters. Perhaps this was the reason for the cool and quiet work of the laptop.

Most of my complaints here are super-minor. The Swift was a little lighter though, so could be a better option for portability, though this means less cooling capacity, so less performance when under heavy load. Overall, I thought the Acer Swift 5 was fine, it’s a nice little laptop that I had no trouble using, it’s just that nothing in particular stood out to me as being amazing, or bad for that matter, it just seems a little pricey to me, but that’s typically the case with smaller and lighter weight machines like this.

So these are a couple of things that I like about the Swift 5 so far. Compared with my current Swift 3 laptop, I would say that the former is a pretty big improvement especially for the Antimicrobial display which is also a touchscreen with Corning® Gorilla® Glass. Acer has banished all the significant gremlins from its previous generation Swift 5 machines and that makes the new machine a clear recommendation. The keyboard layout still presents some issues but you will probably get used to them in time. Otherwise, it is small, light, powerful and stylish, has ports aplenty and very solid battery life – and for the price, it’s pretty good value. It's not better than the new MacBook Air but it does offer Windows users an alternative for which no excuses need to be made.

And at S$2,398, it’s also reasonably priced. One could make the case for the ASUS ZenBook 14 UX3402 and say that at S$1,899 it’s even more affordable. However, the ASUS doesn’t perform quite as well, runs noisier and warmer, and has a smaller 512GB SSD. It’s also chunkier and heavier. The ZenBook is great if you are on a tight budget, but the Swift 5's premium is well justified. Furthermore, Acer offers a more affordable variant that comes with a Core i5-1240P processor but still with 16GB of memory and 1TB SSD for S$2,198. Ultimately, however, both the Acer and ASUS are excellent notebooks that cater to slightly different users. That said, this is easily the best Swift 5 that Acer has made yet and one of the most bang for buck ultraportable notebooks you can buy.

Acer made a complete redesign of this laptop. From the grounds up. It has changed the appearance of the Swift 5, as well as the material it uses. By swapping magnesium for aluminum, the brand manages to cut costs, and make the building process faster and more precise thanks to the CNC technology. This results in a pretty strong chassis. However, the lid pops in a weird way when you try to twist it. On the bright side, there is a Full HD Web camera with a bunch of software enhancements. Acer Swift 5 (SF514-56T)’s WQXGA IPS display is touch-enabled and has a Corning Gorilla Glass cover with Antimicrobial treatment. In addition, it features comfortable viewing angles, a very high maximum brightness, and a very good contrast ratio. We measured a full sRGB color coverage and didn’t detect PWM use across the entire brightness range.

The performance is excellent across the board, it's lovely to type on and the webcam is great. Battery life is decent and the speedy and compact charger makes it very easy to live with. There are a few weak points, particularly the speaker performance and the amount of bloatware, but these will matter more to some users than others. At this price point, there are plenty of great options to choose from, but none look quite as luxurious as the Swift 5.

The last-gen Swift 5, packed with an 11th Gen Intel CPU, blew us out of the water with its 13-hour battery life, stellar performance, attractive design, and palatable price tag. Now, the current-gen Swift 5 is $200 more, but the minor price hike is worth it. It’s got a faster SSD, zippier performance, impressive video transcoding, breakneck file-transfer speeds — and it still manages to be lightweight and pleasing to the eye with an attractive dark-green-and-gold color scheme. The only grievances I have with the Swift 5 is its weak speakers and annoying bloatware apps. Interestingly, when I checked my colleague’s review of the last-gen Swift 5, he pointed out the same issues. If Acer can manage to make its preinstalled apps less irksome, and outfit the Swift 5 with a dual-speaker system with more “oomph,” the Swift 5 could be legendary.

Can a lamentable touchpad ruin what is an otherwise well-rounded laptop? That’s the big question with the Acer Swift 5, a 14-inch ultraportable with a sleek design and a roomy, hi-res display powered modern components. Unfortunately, the touchpad is undersized with a terrible click mechanism that sours the deal. That said, touchpad aside, the Swift 5 has a lot going for it. It packs in a 14-inch display with a tall 16:10 aspect ratio inside a sleek, all-metal enclosure and weighs less than three pounds. Inside, the system boasts a 12th-gen Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a spacious 1TB SSD. The laptop delivers the strong performance and long battery life that business execs need along with the high style and portability they crave. That touchpad, though.

Acer:
Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся со многими играми, если не гнаться за максимальным разрешением и качеством картинки. Сравнительно умеренное энергопотребление таких GPU обеспечит увеличение времени автономной работы.
Intel HD Graphics 620: Графический процессор Intel среднего (GT2) класса, встроенный в некоторые центральные процессоры поколения Intel Kaby Lake. Некоторые - это те, что с 15-ваттным TDP.
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Встраиваемый в центральные процессоры Intel Kaby Lake Refresh графический процессор (GT2, 24 вычислительных ядра). Встраивается в 15-ваттовые процессоры. Очень схож с графикой из прошлого поколения процессоров, Kaby Lake, по имени HD Graphics 620.

i7-7500U: Kaby-Lake based SoC with two CPU cores clocked at 2.7 to 3.5 GHz, HyperThreading and manufactured with an improved 14nm process.
Intel Kaby Lake Refresh:
i5-8250U: Энергоэффективный четырехъядерный процессор семейства Kaby Lake Refresh. Ядра в работают на частоте от 1.6 до 3.4 ГГц, поддерживается многопоточность. Встроенный графический процессор работает на частоте от 300 до 1100 МГц. Изготовлена новинка по нормам 14 нм+ техпроцесса FinFET.
i5-8550U: Энергоэффективный процессор с четырьмя ядрами архитектуры Kaby Lake Refresh. Частота ядер составляет от 1.8 до 4 ГГц (режим Turbo Boost), поддержка HyperThreading есть. Частота ГП: от 300 до 1150 МГц. Процессор изготавливается по нормам 14nm+ FinFET производства.
Intel Core i7:
i7-8565U: Четырехъядерный мобильный процессор семейства Whiskey Lake (технически идентичен Kaby Lake, но произведен по дополнительно улучшенному 14 нм++ техпроцессу). Частота варъируется от 1.8 до 4.6 ГГц.
Intel Core i5:
i5-8265U: Энергоэффективный четырехъядерный процессор семейства Whiskey Lake. По архитектуре идентичен Kaby Lake, но производится по улучшенному 14 нм++ техпроцессу. Рабочая частота лежит в пределах от 1.6 до 3.9 ГГц, поддерживается HyperThreading.
Intel Ice Lake:
i7-1065G7: Маломощный четырёхъядерный процессор на архитектуре Ice Lake. Ориентирован на тонкие, лёгкие ноутбуки. Частота ядер меняется в пределах 1.3 - 3.9 ГГц, параметр IPC (производительность на такт) должен быть на 18% выше моделей предшествующего семейства (и таким образом компенсировать снижение частот). Изготавливается компанией Intel на 10-нанометровом производстве 10nm+.
i5-1035G1: Четырёхъядерный процессор семейства Ice Lake. Ориентирован на тонкие, лёгкие ноутбуки, процессорные ядра располагают функцией Hyper-Threading и используют архитектуру Sunny Cove, а работают с частотой 1.0...3.6 ГГц. Встроенный графический процессор, UHD Graphics G1, располагает 32 блоками EU. Рассматриваемый Core i5 изготавливается на 10-нанометровом производстве Intel и обладает частично интегрированной поддержкой Wi-Fi 6 и Thunderbolt.
Intel Tiger Lake:
i7-1165G7: Четырёхъядерный процессор семейства Tiger Lake. Относится к среднему уровню производительности, ориентирован на тонкие ноутбуки; частота процессорных ядер при 28-ваттовом долговременном Power Limit равна 28 Вт, максимально достижимая частота при нагрузке на одно ядро = 4.7 ГГц. Встроенный графический процессор называется Iris Xe G7 (96 блоков EU). Рассматриваемый Core i7 изготавливается на 10-нанометровом производстве Intel во втором поколении и был вторым по производительности среди всех процессоров Tiger Lake подкласса UP3, когда Intel представила их в 2020 году.
i5-1135G7: Четырёхъядерный процессор среднего уровня для ноутбуков и планшетов. Относится к семейству Tiger Lake (подкласс UP3), изготавливается на 10-нанометровом производстве Intel во втором поколении, располагает 80-блочным видеопроцессором Iris Xe Graphics G7.
Intel Alder Lake-P:
i7-1260P: Процессор для тонких ноутбуков с активным охлаждением. Располагает 4 производительными и 8 экономными ядрами с частотой работы в пределах 1.5...4.7 ГГц. Входит в семейство Alder Lake, подкласс P, номинальное энергопотребление = 28 ватт, максимальное = 64 ватта. Функции vPro поддерживаются на уровне "Essentials" (без возможности дистанционного управления ноутбуком). Встроенный графический адаптер, Iris Xe с 96 блоками EU, остался тем же, что был в предшествующих процессорах (Tiger Lake UP3).
